Creativity & Fiction - Train to Busan

It has been three years since Su-an and Seong-kyeong successfully escaped the horrifying chase of the rampaging zombies. They remained at a quarantine zone at Busan, the only city that was still standing in South Korea and protected by the military. They were now allowed to meet Nayoung, the mother of Su-an, at the evacuation camp.

Nayoung (crying with joy): Su-an, my baby! I missed you so much, come over here!

Su-an runs to Nayoung from a distance and hugs her while sobbing in bittersweetness. Seong-kyeong approaches them with her daughter, Seo-hyun, holding on to her petite hands.

Su-an (
crying, sniffling): Eomma…eomma…

Nayoung: There, there… (softly pats her head) Everything will be okay. You are a strong girl. From now on, I will be here for you.

Seong-kyeong: It must have been so hard for her. She told me so much about you. Your warmth, your smile, even your voice. You were everything to her.

Nayoung: Really? You must have been the one taking care of her. Thank you so much for all you have done. I really mean it. Not a day goes by for me without worrying about her. I am Nayoung, her mother. I guess my husband did his best protecting her.

Seong-kyeong: I am Seong-kyeong (
shakes hand with Nayoung). Yes, your husband was truly a hero. I owe so much to him. He protected me and my baby when I was still pregnant. If not for him, we would not be here today. I still am trying to move on from his sacrifice along with my husband (breaks into gentle tears).

Nayoung: Don’t cry, you tried your best. I knew that Seok-woo would do anything to protect Su-an and the others. Even with our differences, I believed in him. He doesn’t go down easily. I’m so sorry about your husband. Your heart must have been broken to witness his passing.

Seong-kyeong: Thank you, I’m so glad to have met you today (
wipes her tears with a tissue). It was really hard to get closure from anyone here. I hope that we will be able to finally get out of here and live a happy life.

Nayoung: Yeah, that would be best for Su-an and your daughter. What is her name? She has such beautiful eyes. She looks just like you and I guess that the nose resembles your late husband.

Seo-hyun quickly hid behind Seong-kyeong. She didn’t like interacting with strangers and only warmed up to Su-an.

Su-an: It’s okay, Seo-hyun! She is my eomma, just like you with eonni. We are all a gajok.

Seong-kyeong: Yeah, come out, Seo-hyun-a. She means no harm. Say hi to Nayoung-ssi.

Seo-hyun: (
steps out, with her finger locked and thumbs fidgeting) Hello Nayoung-nim, my name is Yoon Seo-hyun. Your hair looks really pretty.

Nayoung: Aw, what a sweet girl (
bends down to her knees and pats her). Make sure to listen to your eomma, okay? She has been through so much (holds her little hands). I’ll make sure you and Su-an see each other often when we move to another city. Promise! (sticks out her pinky)

Seo-hyun (
big smile 😀): Promise! (locks her pinky with Nayoung’s)

Seong-kyeong: Now that we know each other more, would you like to grab dinner with me and Seo-hyun? I want to get to know more about you and your life here in Busan.

Nayoung: Of course, thank you again for everything. I am so grateful to have such caring companions. I am okay with anything, just no tteokbokki. It’s too spicy!

The four of them start walking to the dining hall with the closure that they needed to start a new life. Su-an and Seo-hyun’s smiles lit the skies that afternoon.

Currently, the situation in South Korea has become too extreme to be resolved. Therefore, other countries of the world have decided to contain the outbreak through heavily increasing defense at the Korean Demilitarized Zone while blocking water travel near the peninsula. People were only allowed to leave safely through helicopters to China or Japan after staying at Busan for four years.

Side note: Half a box of tissues was used creating this fanfic! This movie really needed a feel-good ending! 🤧
