Atomic Habits & Growth

At this current point in time, what specific standards have you set for yourself?

How and why did you come to craft these standards?

How do you demonstrate resilience towards achieving these standards?

How do you assess yourself?  What adjustments do you make? How often?

Despite being more than halfway done with the school year of 2023, I had only recently set up a new standard for myself. Having finished my college applications as well as ending my first semester with high grades, I quickly fell prey to a phenomenon called senioritis. I stopped being productive and did my work last minute, falling back into my age-old problem of procrastination.

This same lack of productivity led to varying consequences. As time passed my grades have begun getting lower and lower without me even realizing it. It wasn’t until I had received a 70 on the Senior Calculus test that I realized just how much impact my procrastination had on me.

Having achieved extremely high grades the prior semester, I realized the negative effect my lack of productivity had on me. I began seeing resisting my urges to slack off as a standard that I heavily needed to maintain. Knowing this I started my journey to become more productive as a person. However, my goal was easier said than done. Having already fallen prey to senioritis and fallen back to my problem, resisting my urges to procrastinate became a hassle. There are multiple times when I even almost gave in to my urges. However, I realized that falling into my urges can reverse all the progress that I have done so far to be more productive and make me go back into procrastinating. Thus I continued to resist my urges and as time passed, I slowly but surely became more productive. Instead of doing things last minute, I would do them the moment I can. Nowadays, while my current grades are not as high as my grades in the previous semester, through a rise in productivity, my grades are slowly but surely increasing as I become more productive as time passes on.
