Modern Mythology Blog #2

When I heard that Mr. Misciagna was giving a presentation I was very excited and it did
not disappoint. I am very fond of ideas regarding the end of the world because it is an
idea that when talked about, puts everyone on edge. The book of Revelation was the
apostle John writing about the terrifying events that would occur before there would be
divine intervention to punish the evil of the world. John was exiled to the Isle of Patmos
because of his religious faith where Jesus Christ came to him and sent him to the future
so that he could write to the churches and warn them of the horrifying events to come.
Although it may seem like the book of revelation is about despair and pain the people
will suffer from but in reality it is about hope. The end talks about how right will triumph
over evil and that Jesus will watch over his people no matter what. What’s so
fascinating is that this thousand year old book still relates to events that happen today.
There have been several times in the past 20 years when asteroids and comets have
been predicted to hit the earth but they didn’t. People also believed that covid could be
the plague that ends us all, but this was proven to be false. Many people suffered and
many died but we took measures against it and eventually began to overcome it. This
can be seen in the book of revelation at the end and relates to the idea that Jesus is
watching over us. Although I enjoyed the presentation, the interpretation of this part of
the new testament only facilitated my prior beliefs about religion. People choose to
blindly follow the words of a man who supposedly knows the future in hopes that a god will reward them in the next life. I believe that people begin to rely too much on the hope
religion provides and use it as an excuse to avoid their responsibilities.
