Goal Setting & Growth

At this current point in time, what specific goal(s) do you have for yourself? Why?

At this point, my goals are to get back in shape, read more, and to enjoy as much of my senior year as I can. Ever since swim season started, I started eating a lot after practices to refuel, but I often binge ate afterwards due to the hunger. Over the course of the season, I ended up gaining ten pounds, where most of it was fat. Due to our season ending a week ago, I’ve been trying to get back into slimmer shape, as I was in the beginning of the season. As a little kid, I always loved reading for fun but I was only able to do that because I had very little homework and I didn’t spend time on traveling. Ever since high school started, I started only reading for classes and not as much for fun. I started a biography almost two years ago and I haven’t finished it yet. Right now with college applications over, I’m aiming to allocate more downtime so I can get back to reading more. Lastly, I just want to enjoy the last semester of my senior year. Due to COVID, I lost a good year and a half worth of activities and memories with my friends at school and I just want to use these last few months to enjoy every moment before we all head off to college.

How do you demonstrate resilience towards achieving this goal? (or these goals?)

I demonstrate towards achieving these goals by better managing my times and sticking to a schedule. For my workouts, I’m going to the gym three times a week before school and going on morning runs the other four days. I’m aiming to be back to where I was before the season started in about 3-4 weeks. When I eventually do hit a wall with my workouts, I inevitably will have to switch up the routines to keep it fresh for my body. With better time management, I’ll be able to allocate more downtime to reading and enjoying what I have left of my senior year. Although I’ve been in high school for four years already, I’ve only gotten 2 years of in person memories so far, with nearly half of them from playing games online during quarantine. Once it gets to AP season, I definitely will be hanging out less with my friends and studying more, but I hope I’m able to relish the times I can.

How does the world around you affect your perception of this goal? (or these goals?)

The world around me has affected my perception of my goals by ensuring me that these goals are very achievable as long as I stay on course and persevere. Looking back on the first blog, I talked about getting faster for swim season, which I eventually did through sticking to a schedule and enduring the pain as it came and went. I should be able to use those same techniques to get back into slimmer shape. Seeing others in my school have time for themselves to do what they enjoy also reassures me that I can do the same with my reading. If I push myself to finish homework a little faster and play a smaller amount of games, I should also be able to accomplish my goal of reading more. Lastly, seeing how quarantine came and went made me cherish every in person memory possible, as it can all come to a stop instantly, as COVID has unfortunately shown us.
