Modern Mythology 2022

  • Goal Setting & Growth

    • At this current point in time, what specific goal(s) do you have for yourself? Why?

    • How do you demonstrate resilience towards achieving this goal? (or these goals?)

    • How does the world around you affect your perception of this goal? (or these goals?)

At this current point in time, what specific goal(s) do you have for yourself? Why?

Senioritis is real, and it is a struggle to deal with it. Ever since I finished my college applications, I have felt a declining interest and motivation in school. Really, school just seems like a place for me to hang out with friends now. I am burnt out of school now. Every day I have double period calculus in the morning, and even though it’s sometimes fun, I would rather not be sitting in the same seat every day for two periods straight. However, even though I am severely burnt out, I understand that I still need to maintain my grades for some college scholarships, and I shouldn’t just ditch school every day. I am determined to keep my senioritis from ruining my last year in Staten Island Tech, and to make the rest of this year a wonderful experience for me.

How do you demonstrate resilience towards achieving this goal? (or these goals?)

My struggle with senioritis hit its peak in my AP Macroeconomics class. A recent test we did was one of the hardest tests I have taken in high school, and after I finished the test, I was certain that I failed. I failed, and I was extremely unmotivated afterwards. This was one test I studied the most for. I stayed up late reviewing the graphs and the topics, memorizing what I thought was important. I wanted to forgo studying for the class after this, even if I did study, I still failed. My grades don't matter this year, I thought to myself. I was ready to give up on the class until I heard she was going to allow us to retake the exam. Even though my senioritis told me that the test didn’t matter, and I intended to take the test without studying, I pushed myself to study for the test, and I passed. Even though senioritis hits me hard, I still overcome it, and pass my exams.

How does the world around you affect your perception of this goal? (or these goals?)

My friends and peers all feed into my senioritis, and they are all afflicted with it too. Their attitude towards school is apathetic, and when I talk about school with them, they just say “I don’t care” most of the time. This attitude spreads sometimes, and I will feel weighed down whenever they are apathetic about school. However, my teachers are usually really encouraging to me, which changes my attitude to care about passing my classes and tests. I can talk with my teachers about my struggles with their classes whenever I don’t understand the topic, and they will clarify the topic for me and encourage me to work harder. This attitude also spreads, being a positive influence on me, and helping me through the rest of the year.
