Modern Mythology 2023

I believed that the issues of inequity, oppression, and power are interconnected and prevalent in our society. One such problem that portrays this issue, is the ongoing criticisms of taxes and concentration of wealth. As the saying goes “The rich get richer, while the poor get poorer” has its merit. Various factors, including the tax system often affect this growing disparity and gap between the rich and the poor. As many would agree that our current tax system favors the wealthy and large businesses while low-income individuals struggle to get by living paycheck to paycheck. And on top of that these struggling individuals are then withheld a substantial portion of their paycheck for taxes making it harder to improve their circumstances. This perpetuating cycle of poverty and unequal distribution of resources demonstrates the existence of societal inequities.

Social media platforms are another example of our society’s issue. On these platforms we often see rising conflicts and issues happening all around the world, showing animal cruelty, human cruelty, riots, and even live reports of people in warring countries. But despite their ability to raise awareness about injustices and human rights violations, they are also a source of ongoing drama and the “cancel culture” there as well. Furthermore, the presence of social media oftentimes escalates conflicts creating a toxic community.
