  • Creativity & Fiction

    • Craft a piece of FAN fiction related to any of the reading we’ve done in class that addresses one or more of the following:

      • Literary elements (i.e. structure, tone, diction, mood, irony, and figurative language) to craft a narrative.

      • Structural features of drama (stage directions, character attributions/tags, dialogue, monologues, and/or soliloquies) to craft a script.

      • Multidimensional characters to develop themes and create socio-political metaphors.

In the realm of Norse mythology, there exists an uncontrolled power sealed within the depths of the universe, waiting for his revenge. Fenrir, son of Loki the trickster, was this said power.

From birth, Fenrir has been cast aside, but because he wasn’t huge, he was able to stay with the others, hunt with the others, and enjoy his childhood, but at the same time, there were those who were afraid of his powers, and watched him from afar. Fenrir, who wanted to prove to others that he isn’t what others think he is, set out on an adventure to redeem himself. The goal of this adventure was to become friends with the people of the forest, who were isolated from the rest of the world.

As Fenrir pondered on his way through the forest to find these people, it was already night. He didn’t want to venture further into the dark unknown. He howled where he stayed in the bright moonlight. A young boy named Bob who heard this, came close to Fenrir and saw the beast under the moonlight. To his surprise, Fenrir didn’t attack. Believing there is a chance for friendship, Bob took out his hand and reached for Fenrir.  Fenrir, who has been lonely for most of his life, took the hand and Bob brought him to the village where the people of the forest were staying. Astounded by the amount of resources, military strength, and wealth the village had, Fenrir decided to make an ally of the people.

As he returned back to the realm of the gods, Odin, who suspected the growth of Fenrir and the people supporting him, gave him a challenge. If he could withstand the chains brought to him, the people will acknowledge his hard work and accept him for who he is. Otherwise, he would be exiled from the realm. Fenrir, confident in his strength, took the challenge. Little did he know that the chain, “Gleipnir”, was the entity that he could not overcome. Bounded by the chains, Odin and the other gods sealed Fenrir away. The people of the forest didn’t know of this and just thought that Fenrir had betrayed them for greater wealth from the Aesir gods.
