I understand that in my life I have experienced luxuries that many others would be lucky to have but I still hold very strong opinions about equity and oppression in today's society. I believe that there is inequity in this world but that is perfectly normal and should be the case. Equity unlike equality is everyone obtaining the same result while equality is everyone having equal opportunities to obtain those results. It would be unfair for someone who puts in more effort and shows better results to not be taken because a company has to meet diversity standards and therefore take a worse applicant. Oppression and inequity haunts our society to this day in many aspects of our life. Up until just recently a person who was not vaccinated against covid was not able to attend in person education at any college in New York, therefore a New York resident would be forced to go to a school out of state and pay significantly more money to receive a college education. I always try to hear both sides and understand every perspective of a story to better understand which side I should align myself with or whether I should align myself with any side at all. I am skeptical of any information I take in and always try to think for myself rather than letting others think for me. I believe it's important for everyone to formulate their own beliefs and always be slightly skeptical of any information they take in.
