Kenny Chui, Period 6, 4/18/23

Atomic Habits & Growth

  • At this current point in time, what specific standards have you set for yourself?

Keep up with the readings and participate in class discussions often

  • How and why did you come to craft these standards?

For the first one, I knew that the readings were integral to understanding the context of the questions that would be asked, which are the way that we get points. Especially for this semester with the books, Beowulf, Grendel, and Interview with the Vampire having longer passages, more complex, philosophical content would be covered than the previous fairytale, mythology, and nonfiction readings. The best way to achieve this goal is by permanently having the syllabus in a free tab so that it would be accessible, making checking for reading requirements a quick and unforgettable task.

For the second standard, I felt that my skills for my team derive from my ability to come up with answers to questions and speak my mind freely. Not many people in the class are as confident in their answers due to the complexity of the content and often unclear or indefinite ways to answer the lesson’s questions, so I want to utilize that advantage.

  • How do you demonstrate resilience towards achieving these standards?

Despite the text passages often being long and riddled with complex and high level language, I was able to consistently read and be prepared for discussions in class. Sometimes my answers are not exactly on point or go off on tangents that do not specifically target the answer that Mrs Fusaro may have had in mind and it can get to my head. When that occurs, it does not deter me for too long due to the nature of the lessons being class discussions, so I can understand the main idea and bounce back in the next question.

  • How do you assess yourself?  What adjustments do you make? How often?

My standards are not necessarily quantifiable in terms of how many times I achieve the standard or how well, but more in terms of did I achieve the goal (yes/no). This is because I either did or didn’t read the passage text beforehand, and I either participated a lot or not, and I participate very often. Because of this simplicity, I don’t need to make adjustments to the standards.
