Mitchell Pozovskiy, Period 6, 3/14/23

  • Socio-political Consciousness

    • What are your thoughts and feelings about issues of inequity, oppression, and/or power?

    • How do you reflect critically on your own beliefs, assumptions, values, and experiences, and how these can influence your perception of self and others?

When it comes to addressing issues of inequity, oppression, and power, I believe that it is important to first acknowledge that these problems exist and that they have a significant impact on certain individuals and communities. While I recognize the importance of individual effort and responsibility, I also understand that systemic issues can create barriers to success for some individuals.

As a result, I believe that we should work towards creating a more equitable environment for everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances. This includes increasing access to quality education, healthcare, and job training programs, as well as addressing issues such as discrimination and inequality that can hinder some individuals' opportunities.

In terms of reflecting on my own beliefs and assumptions, I try to remain open-minded and receptive to different viewpoints. By engaging in respectful and constructive dialogue with those who have differing perspectives, I believe that we can gain a better understanding of the issues at hand and work towards finding solutions that are fair and just for all.

For example, I have spoken with individuals who have experienced discrimination based on their gender, race, or socioeconomic status. Through these conversations, I have gained a deeper appreciation for the challenges that some individuals face and the impact that systemic issues can have on their lives. While I may not always agree with every proposed solution, I believe that by keeping an open mind and engaging in meaningful dialogue, we can make progress towards a more equitable society.
