Ryan Mcdermott, Period 8, 5/12/22

At this current point in time, what specific goal(s) do you have for yourself? Why?

My current goal is to get a 4 or 5 on my AP physics, calculus and macroeconomics exams. These are difficult exams and are essential classes for my major of engineering. It is important for me to do well on these exams so I can use the credits in college. If I pass all 3 of these exams I will obtain 9 college credits which will greatly accelerate my learning in college. By passing these exams I will be able to skip most of my 1st semester of college and possibly graduate with a bachelor's degree by my 3rd year of college. Additionally, I think it is important to pass these exams because I have worked towards this the entire year and don’t want it to be a waste of time and money.

How do you demonstrate resilience towards achieving this goal? (or these goals?)

I demonstrate resilience towards achieving this goal by studying for my exams as well as improving on the subject matter that I struggled with. For example, in Macroeconomics I specifically studied the financial market topic and went to after school tutoring to gain a better understanding of the subject matter. Additionally, I have been using review books and taking practice AP tests to ensure I get a better score. I am resilient because I study for at least an hour a day even though I find it boring.

How does the world around you affect your perception of this goal? (or these goals?)

The world around me makes me feel my goal is more important than it realistically is. There is a lot of pressure from my parents and the fact that I get to skip classes in college. However if I fail the test it doesn't really matter because I can just retake the classes in college. Additionally, my peers working hard towards the same goal inspires me to work harder and study more. For example I have been studying with my friends for the AP macro exam to give us the best chance of passing the test.
