Modern Mythology 2022

At this current point in time, what specific goal(s) do you have for yourself? Why?

I think that my specific goals involve staying focused and preparing for my tests better. Recently sometimes I have felt this sort of urge to just not care as much as my senior year comes to an end, and this can cause several problems. However, I don’t think this is just something that has been limited to just this senior year. There have been times throughout my life where I feel like I have not put my best foot forward, and for me that is the worst reason to not do well on something. Aside from the obvious problems that my grades could suffer, I don’t like the feeling when I don’t put the effort into a task that I feel it deserves. Effort is something that is very important to me, not just in school but in all facets of my life. As for the specific ways that I can apply that, I think that taking more time to study for my tests is something that I want to do and have been successful at recently. It seems like something very simple, but it greatly improves how well I do on tests and it is something that is not very difficult to do if I truly want to do it. If I do poorly on the test, I don’t want it to be from a lack of effort on my part. I also have 3 AP tests coming up in May, and while I don’t think they are necessarily at the forefront of my mind at the moment, preparing for them is still a somewhat longer term goal that I have to think about. I do think it’s also important for me to balance everything I do still, and make sure that I can make my last couple of months here rewarding while maintaining the effort level I want.

How do you demonstrate resilience towards achieving this goal? (or these goals?)

There are quizzes and tests that I have done poorly on recently that caused me to realize that I need to work harder. I realized that the reason that I had not been doing well was because I was not putting enough work in. I look at classes with a lot of quizzes and tests like Calculus and I feel like there is no reason that I cannot consistently do well. And so for this unit I made sure that I was on top of my game in terms of studying and making sure that I understood all of the material, and I think it showed in the results that I achieved. I think that fighting the urge to be lazy is what is most important for me here. I am more motivated when I am enjoying myself, and I enjoy myself when I am in the present moment more. That is why I think living in the present moment could actually help me become more focused and put forth more effort in not only just school but everything that I do.

How does the world around you affect your perception of this goal? (or these goals?)

Part of my future, and the future of my classmates is the transition to college that is coming up soon. This is why I think that making sure that I am focused and motivated is important. College is a much more independent environment, and so it is imperative that I make sure that I am on top of everything. As I get older, I will have more and more responsibilities, so maintaining that consistent work ethic will be crucial for determining my future. I am more of a process over results person, because while you can better your chances there are a lot of situations where you are not in direct control of the results. I feel like as long as I put myself in a good position and put the requisite effort in I will be comfortable. My family also helps me stay motivated, and my dad is the person who introduced the idea to me of putting in the work and living with the results.
