Socio-political Consciousness

What are your thoughts and feelings about issues of inequity, oppression, and/or power?

When I think of Issues of Inequity, oppression and power, I think of racism, Hilter, and the American Civil War. I think of Racism because it has to do with Oppression, Oppression of the Slaves brought here from Africa against their will and also has to do with how they were treated both during and after the Civil war. African Americans were basically used as cannon fodder by the north and if they were free black men up north they were treated like second-class citizens not being able to vote and not being able to provide for themselves. Hilter also Oppressed a people, he oppressed the Jews blaming them for the treaty of Versailles and he exterminated them from the world by burning them alive and having gas showers to get rid of them. These Three Things all are Oppression, Power and inequity and they are horrible things that have happened all over history and they al have stemmed from one thing Greed. Greed for power to take over the world, Greed to have more money than other people who are actually starving, and greed to use that money to silence a people.

How do you reflect critically on your own beliefs, assumptions, values, and experiences, and how these can influence your perception of self and others?

When I think of my own assumptions I am definitely quick to assume things about other people not because of prejudice but because my head does that whole narrative thing were you instantly start thinking of a story before you learn all the details like if I see someone in the bathroom and the bathroom smells I assume that its that persons fault. This assuming hurts my perception of others and myself because always to quick to get all the details to make an accurate story of something that might have happened or the type of person that someone is when you first meet them. When I think of personal experiences that I have when you look back you can only really remember the good memories like when you sneaking playing games while the teacher wasn't looking in 5th grade or when you threw the ball and Dunked your teacher in 3rd grade. But the really bad memories were YOU messed up are the ones that stick. For example, you were late to school and missed a test because you didn't get up in time or a really bad grade on a test and then your parents found out and they yelled at you. These both affect your perception of others but having the worst memories be the ones that stay the longest and most vivid it definitely makes the perception of yourself go down if it was you that caused the bad memory and Others will be boosted into a more positive light because only the good gets remembered and the bad in suppressed.
