Goal Setting & Growth

At this current point in time, what specific goal(s) do you have for yourself? Why

One of my goals right now is to maintain my grades for the remainder of the year. I’ve already felt the senioritis kicking in following my acceptance letters to a few schools, but I know that I should keep working diligently to close out my high school career, and so that I can have a seamless transition into the college workload.

Another one of my goals is to play well during the upcoming volleyball season. I spent the last few weeks on the bench due to an ankle injury, but in the coming week, I should be cleared to return. I hope to be able to get right back into it, and make this an enjoyable time for myself and my teammates.

A final goal is just to spend the remainder of my time at this school well, living in the moment, enjoying this time with my friends, rather than worrying about what comes next. I hope to make up for the time we lost due to the pandemic, and be able to look back on high school fondly.

How do you demonstrate resilience towards achieving this goal? (or these goals?)

Although it may seem like not too difficult of a task to maintain grades as a student, I’m finding it much more difficult to do this, especially after spending all of last year online, doing much less work than usual. I found myself being significantly lazier than I used to be, especially as the end of the year draws closer and closer. However, I think this task is manageable as all my teachers would be willing to help me if I asked, and I simply need to put more effort into my schoolwork than I have been recently.

As with any sport, the way to perform well is to put in the practice, and our team will be doing just that, practicing 5 times a week for 2 hours every day. I plan on easing myself back into practices in order to not reinjure my ankle, but I will do my best to keep up with everybody, and improve alongside them.

I believe that we spend too much time worrying about the future, when our anxiety would do nothing to change the outcome. I hope to simply spend time with my friends, and make the most of the time I have left with them before I leave for college.

How does the world around you affect your perception of this goal? (or these goals?)

The world around me helps me to do my best in all things. In order to play volleyball, I need to make sure I’m passing my classes so I don’t get suspended from the team. In order to have opportunities to play in matches, I have to give it my all in practices, and stand out. I think all of this goes into enjoying my remaining time here, as really, where’s the fun in not going all out?
