 Socio-political Consciousness

Oppression, the abuse of power, and inequality have become customary in today's world; with selfish officials polluting government offices, and false media coverage creating further divergence between people, we are doomed. We have allowed these men to turn us against each other, which has led us to the fate we face today. You and I bicker over news coverage, wrongfully accusing others of crimes they have not committed, because those with the power have led us to do so. We have been spoon fed the wrong side of the story, the story which makes the police officers of the world out to be villains, the story which makes democrats uneducated minorities and republicans over-privileged racists. For this reason, the concept of inequality and oppression remains today. Where inequality, racism, or prejudice is not present, its presence is accused. When such accusations begin to overflow media coverage, actual instances of inequality become diluted and hidden beneath an abundance of lies. Where the problem grows larger is when a perspective on a specific matter is assigned to a political party–this is where the disconnect amongst ourselves begins.

The civil rights of human beings have become a “political view”–such a topic should not be up for discussion, regardless of political preference. America is red against blue, whereas it should be Americans against injustice. If we could overcome this disunity, inequality and the oppression of minorities would be eradicated from our society. We must stop making decisions as “republicans” or “democrats” but instead as advocates of fairness and equal opportunity, values which we can all get behind. As of now, we cannot seem to find common ground amongst each other. One can only hope with the newest generation, our understanding of each other grows and our society blossoms into one of peace and unity.
