Modern Mythology 2022

At this current point in time, what specific goal(s) do you have for yourself? Why?

At this current point in time, a specific goal I have for myself is to complete my regular decision supplements before the deadline to enjoy my winter break. I have been very stressed out about my college applications for the past few months and didn’t have much time entirely dedicated to myself. By finishing my supplements early, I can double-check my writing and relax. I recently got a job at a nearby veterinary clinic, and it requires me to put in a lot of time and energy. For this reason,  I want to finish my assignments and study ahead of time so I feel less overwhelmed and in panic mode. There are many different jobs I am trying to balance simultaneously, so getting enough sleep and maintaining my mental health has not been my main concern. But in the coming week, I would like to pay more attention to those areas as I feel very drained after each school and workday.

How do you demonstrate resilience towards achieving this goal? (or these goals?)

I plan on achieving these goals by not procrastinating and always staying on a positive mindset. If I ran into an issue, I would try different solutions and then give myself self-talk, so I don’t break down into panic. My family has helped me mentally through the college process by enlightening my mood and pressure. Whenever I was at a breaking point, I would go to my mom, she would comfort me, and I was ready to go the following day. Getting enough sleep is strongly correlated with not procrastinating till the last minute so I can relax and enjoy my night. This year I had to pull many all-nighters because I was a bit behind academically due to all the college prep stuff and not getting us to in-person learning. To overcome this, I started to create an agenda for myself of tasks throughout the day. I would check off whatever assignments I had completed, which relieved my stress by showcasing my efficiency. After getting more alerted with my academic status, I started taking more thorough notes and spending more after-school time devoted to studying.

How does the world around you affect your perception of this goal? (or these goals?

The working and learning environment at tech motivates me, pressures me, and makes nothing seem impossible. I watch so many people juggle all these time-consuming jobs, and they are doing just fine both academically and socially. Because of this, I feel like I am obligated to be at the same level, which can be difficult sometimes but manageable. Academic-wise, whenever I slack off, it becomes obvious because I would get lost during class. This alarms me and forces me to review independently, so I don’t fall too behind. Our school environment is filled with college topics right now, so it sets me into fight mode, which is stressful but efficient in writing supplements. I go back to a more chill environment at home because my parents know how much stress I put on myself, so they would tell me to take a break instead. Home is more of a rejuvenation that sets me ready for the next stressful day. The world around me has a positive impact on my goals because it helps me strive forward to meet them.
