Modern Mythology 2022

At this current point in time, what specific goal(s) do you have for yourself? Why?

Currently, I have various goals that I have set for myself. As Regular Decision deadlines approach, I am hoping to complete all of my college applications before Christmas so that I can enjoy the holiday season without stressing about them. With the holidays quickly approaching, I’ve realized that this year has passed in the blink of an eye. It is nearly about to end and in six months, I will be graduating, marking the end of my high school experience. Upon realizing that there is limited time left in this chapter of my life, I have decided to make it a goal to enjoy my last year at SITHS as much as possible. I hope to create good memories so that in the future, I can look back on them fondly. In addition to completing my college applications and enjoying my senior year, I am working on improving my skills in the kitchen. I am applying to colleges that are mainly outside of NYC. Therefore, I will need to be a good cook in order to save money and lead a healthy lifestyle.

How do you demonstrate resilience towards achieving this goal? (or these goals?)

In order to achieve my goal of completing my college applications, I will need to manage my time properly and avoid procrastination. This will require discipline on my part because I am easily distracted by my phone or other unimportant tasks. Time management and discipline are also necessary for me to enjoy senior year, although it may sound counterintuitive. This is because to make memories, I first need to have the time ava ilable to make them. Therefore, it will be challenging for me to stay on top of my work while having fun simultaneously. Lastly, I need to cook consistently to improve my cooking skills. Since I was taught not to waste food, this journey will not only test my mental resilience, it will also test my physical endurance in the case that I mess up.

How does the world around you affect your perception of this goal? (or these goals?)

My circumstances have largely influenced my goal-setting and my motivations for these goals are largely for my own benefit. It is because I want to relax for the holidays that I hope to complete my college applications prior to winter break. I want to become a better cook to prepare for life away from home in college. My goal to enjoy senior year, however, is mainly influenced by my friends. From a realistic perspective, I understand that the likelihood of my group of friends remaining close to each other is slim due to the fact that we will be walking different paths past graduation. We will be separated as we go to different colleges, cities, and even states. Therefore, I hope to enjoy the time I have left with them.
