Modern Mythology 2023: Atomic Habits & Growth

As the school year starts, many people will try to eliminate procrastination and increase productivity. I am no exception to that, as I’ve also been trying to be productive as more work gets assigned in school. As a senior, I’ve been warned that the first semester of senior year would be the busiest as many college applications are due in November and December. Even then, I’ve been procrastinating on those as well as I haven’t finished my college essays nor completed any applications. So at this current time, the standards I have set for myself are to set goals and deadlines for myself and have a designated time to complete assignments. I’ve come to craft these standards from experience from the past school year. In the past, I often procrastinated on homework and even projects and left them unstarted until the day of. This led to me staying up late in the hours of morning to finish them leaving me with only a few hours of sleep and feeling extremely tired for the next school day. Therefore, I believe creating a schedule for myself and getting into a routine will significantly improve my productivity this school year. Looking aside from school work, I hope to also allow myself to relax more and do things that I like such as spending time with my friends and playing games.

I would have to achieve these standards as the school year will only get busier as more deadlines and tests approach. I often struggle with motivation to complete assignments and it has been an ongoing occurrence since last March as I felt burnt out from doing too much and taking too many classes at a time. I will demonstrate resilience to these standards by reminding myself how relieved I would be to not have to worry about submitting homework and college applications on time. In addition, I will attempt to rid myself of distractions such as social media, notifications, and games during my designated work time to increase productivity. I will assess myself by how well I actually stick to my plan of meeting my own deadlines and rating how stressed I feel since deadlines are the source of the majority of my stress. I’d like to ease myself slowly into a routine by starting to set a couple of deadlines for homework and projects and later complete assignments a few days before it's due if time allows. An adjustment I would make is to the designated time I set aside for doing work if I feel like it is necessary. I would need more time for studying for exams and completing projects and less when it is nearing the end of the term and during breaks throughout the school year. Hopefully, I actually stick to these standards and plans for this school year and continue it into the future as well as it would be beneficial in college as well.
