Modern Mythology 2022

Goal Setting & Growth

At this current point in time, what specific goal(s) do you have for yourself? Why?

How do you demonstrate resilience towards achieving this goal? (or these goals?)

How does the world around you affect your perception of this goal? (or these goals?)

In my first blog, I discussed some of the goals at the time. I described my goal of getting into a top college and how I would achieve this goal. Initially, I was rejected from all the elite universities I applied to so I decided to commit to Bucknell. However, a few days ago Cornell announced that they would take 50 additional students in the engineering college off the waitlist. I was ecstatic when I heard this news and rushed home to write a letter of continued interest and accept my place on the waitlist. After not hearing back from them for several days I was once again giving up hope until my parents surprised me at golf practice and informed me I was one of the few students to be taken off the waitlist. When I found out I was elated that the hard work I put in the past year had finally paid off.

Although this college admissions process has been grueling and strenuous it has nevertheless taught me the value of hard work and persistence. Had I given up after the initial rounds of rejections I would have never gotten into Cornell through the waitlist application. It was easy to get discouraged through this long and difficult process, however, I believe facing these rejections has made me a more resilient person overall. My goal now is to successfully complete the last few weeks of high school and make the transition to college. I will achieve this by continuing to do my school work and fill out all the forms I need for college. A more long-term goal of mine is to do well in college and eventually become a computer engineer. This is a field that appeals to me because I have always been interested in the STEM field and would one day like to work for a big tech company such as Apple or Google. I will work towards this goal by continuing to learn all I can about this field in college.

It was an extremely rewarding experience to have all the hard work you put in over the past few years finally pay off. I am relieved I finally got into the school of my choice after all this waiting. It is only at the most difficult parts of life we grow the most. In my experience, this has definitely been the case as I have grown the most in the past few months than ever before.
