Goal Setting & Growth

At this current point in time, what specific goal(s) do you have for yourself? Why?

A goal that I have set for myself at this time is to study for my SAT because I want to have a score that I am proud of that I can submit to colleges. Although most colleges are test-optional this year, I still want to get a good score and with the added pressure of my mom expecting a good grade from me, it has been extremely hard finding the motivation to want to study for the SAT. I have procrastinated studying during the summer because I did not want to spend the rest of my summer studying and doing practice tests, as I was spending most of my time on my college applications. I wanted to spend the summer before my senior year having fun and hanging out with my friends because I knew the amount of work I had coming my way when senior year starts. In addition to studying for my SAT, I want to be more studious and be able to study, without wanting to slack off and procrastinate.

How do you demonstrate resilience towards achieving this goal? (or these goals?)

I realized the biggest challenge for me that prevents me from being able to focus on studying for the SAT is the amount of time I spend on my phone, either playing games or watching videos. Therefore, I hope by setting a limit to the amount of time I can spend on my phone, I will be forced to study. I have told myself that I would study for the SAT for at least an hour every day. I want to try out the Pomodoro study method, as I have heard that it is a great way to focus on studying, without getting distracted. As for my procrastination, I want to push myself to get my work done as fast as possible, especially regarding my college application and supplemental essays. I hope by spending less time on my phone and more time on schoolwork and college applications, I will be able to slowly fix my procrastination.

How does the world around you affect your perception of this goal? (or these goals?)

I know it will be difficult to study for the SAT when I have other commitments, such as schoolwork and college applications. Also, the fact that a lot of my friends have already taken their SATs and gotten the score they want, has added another load of weight to my shoulder. But, in order for me to get the score that I want, I have to be willing to put in the work. So, I am going to try my best to do what I have set out to do and find the motivation to study every day. In addition, I hope that by focusing more on my priorities, I will be able to carry this work mindset into college and beyond.
